IFI Local Films for Local People is the IFI Irish Film Archive’s popular programme strand which brings rarely-seen archival films out of the vaults back to the counties where they were made.
A MEATH MISCELLANY is a delightfully varied programme which includes a range of amateur and professional films, dating from the 1940s to more recent times. The programme includes a lavish US dramatisation of St. Patrick’s trial at Tara;the All-Ireland Football Final from 1949 when Meath won a close victory over Cavan; a kaleidoscopic range of Butlins holiday makers captured by amateur and professional filmmakers; and stories from Gael Linn’s Amharc Éireann newsreel (1956 – ‘64) - opening of a bubble gum factory at Kilcock, new housing estates in Trim, masses on the Hill of Slane and a Fleadh Rince at Oldcastle.
