Sightless Cinema: workshops for blind and visually impaired adults

Fridays, 10am – 1pm, free

Sightless Cinema aims to empower people with sight loss as artistic collaborators and creators in the medium of audio theatre. The project has proved an excellent platform for personal development and social inclusion, while also raising awareness of sight loss in the broader community. Creative Director Ciarán Taylor works the participants to explore, devise, perform record and present a radio drama.

Silver Swans - Over 55s Ballet

Specially designed for older learners, Silver Swans Over 55's ballet classes will help improve your mobility, posture, co-ordination and energy levels. Royal Academy of Dance licensed teacher Michelle Kehoe A.I.S.T.D. who has been teaching ballet for over 25 years, leads 6-week courses at Solstice.

Life Drawing with Artist Cáit Moloney

Age Group: Adults. No experience necessary, artists of all levels welcome
Admission: €80 for block of 6.
 

Guided by artists Cáit Moloney and Deirdre Rogers, these relaxed, social sessions are an opportunity to flex your life drawing skills and improve your drawing practice. Over 6 sessions, engage at your own pace, focusing on different elements of drawing the human figure with a variation of models and props. Artists of all levels are welcome. Participants are asked to bring their own drawing materials of choice. Chairs, drawing boards and light refreshments will be provided.

Deirdre Rogers is the Learning & Engagement Coordinator at Solstice. Cáit Moloney is an Irish artist and founder of the art company Caught Rapid. Her highly diverse style ranges from realism and life drawing, to abstract pieces and the theatrical. She has sold her artwork through the Saatchi Gallery in London, as well as several vintage boutiques and venues in Ireland. Earlier this year, Cáit completed a Masters in Fine Arts in Playwriting with the Lir Academy, Trinity College Dublin, after receiving the Patricia Leggett Scholarship for academic prowess.

Act Out - Youth Theatre @ Solstice

NEW REGISTRATIONS OPEN FOR IN-PERSON WEEKLY WORKSHOPS 2022/23

Time & Place: Tuesday evenings: 6 pm - 7:30 pm, & 7:30pm - 9 pm, from 20th September.

Cost: €160 for whole year or €80 x 2 instalments in October & January.

Facilitators: Anthony Kinahan (Actor/Theatre-maker) & Mark O’Reilly (Actor/Theatre-maker)

Previous performance experience is useful but not essential. Places are limited - All COVID-19 guidelines adhered to.

Registration open to new members in the Meath area of secondary school age.

If you’re a young person in the Meath area of secondary school age, and you’re interested in learning more about theatre, performing or expressing yourself in artistic ways, then email actoutmeath@gmail.com with your name, DOB, your parent/guardian’s email and contact number & your preferred workshop location: Solstice Arts Centre. You will then be added to the Act Out YT Waiting List & you will be contacted by the youth theatre to let you know whether there’s a place available.

Established in October 2017, Act Out Youth Theatre’s remit is to create quality theatre experiences with young people (13+) in the Meath area. We are a not-for-profit charity, partnered with Solstice Arts Centre & partnered & supported by Meath County Council Arts Office.

We are also a proud member of the Irish youth theatre community and affiliated to Youth Theatre Ireland. In the last few years, the members of Act Out have produced original, acclaimed plays (Inception & PROJECTions) in Solstice Arts Centre; Stormed the Púca Festival; workshops with national experts, like Meath’s own playwright Deirdre Kinahan (The Unmanageable Sisters; Rathmines Road) & Casting Director Louise Kiely (Sing Street; Normal People); Participated in week-long residentials in Kilkenny with youth theatres from all around the country; Had various theatre-trips and much more … & all this on top of usual weekly workshops.

We provide an annual programme of activities, responding to the needs & interests of the young people, & we pride ourselves on our ethos of accessibility, diversity & inclusion.

Our main objective is to nurture the education, social & personal competencies of our young people ensuring our activities are of benefit to the community, in so far as our work reflects local issues & community needs.

We aim to foster partnerships within the community & to advance the arts, culture & heritage of the area with young people at the helm.

Children's Speech & Drama Classes With Penelope Moorhead

Dates: Mondays 3:00pm - 5:30pm  (as per school calendar)


Penelope Moorhead is an experienced speech, drama and communication teacher who travels throughout Ireland as an examiner and adjudicator of speech and drama. Penelope’s classes offer an encouraging, fun and inclusive approach to speech & drama. Suitable for Junior Infants to 6th class.

This fun activity helps and encourages children to:
• Have positive interactions and collaborations
• Build confidence while joining in activities, drama games and discussions
• Express ideas and opinions
• Develop creatively in thought, movement and performance
• Improve diction, vocal skills and presentation skills
• Explore stories, plays and poems through discussion, recitation and acting

Penelope Moorhead is an established Speech, Drama and Communication teacher with over twenty years experience. She is a senior examiner at the Irish Board of Speech and Drama.
