Landscape Painting & Urban Plein Air with Annette Smyth

Day 1 - Landscape Painting

Saturday 12 September 10am – 2pm

Location: Solstice Arts Centre

Beginning with a short tour of the new group exhibition ‘The First Frontier Was the Horizon’, exhibiting artist Annette Smyth will guide the first of two sessions on landscape painting. Following a practical demonstration on composing an effective image, colour mixing and theory, surfaces and acrylic paint application, participants will have the opportunity to put these skills into practice, drawing from a landscape photograph and creating an acrylic painting from a projected image.

Day 2 - Urban Plein Air

Saturday 19 September 10am – 2pm

Location: Solstice Arts Centre & nearby outdoor site

Revisiting the skills and processes experienced on Day 1, Annette will demonstrate her use of a viewfinder to select a scene for drawing and painting.

Moving outdoors, within proximity to Solstice, participants will choose their own urban location to paint. During this time Annette will offer further guidance and one-to-one demonstrations, as you bring your acrylic Plein Air artwork to completion.

Adult Workshop.

Annette Smyth has been teaching life drawing and painting for 30 years. An avid sketcher, drawing from life as much as possible, Smyth has participated in many group shows in Ireland, the UK and Europe including the RHA, RUA and RWA, with a debut solo show in The Signal Arts Centre, Bray this year. Awarded grants through the Arts Council of Ireland and Age Action, her landscapes are in private collections worldwide.
