Navan Theatre Group presents

The Lieutenant of Inishmore (Navan Theatre Group)

The Lieutenant of Inishmore comes to Navan!

Get ready for a night of black comedy and action as Navan Theatre Group presents The Lieutenant of Inishmore by Martin McDonagh, the same writer of the hugely successful new award-winning feature film The Banshees of Inisherin, as well as Three Billboards outside Ebbing and In BrugesThe Lieutenant of Inishmore is a clever satire on terrorism and a hilarious farce in true McDonagh fashion.

The Lieutenant of Inishmore is a dark comedy set on the remote island of Inishmore in the 1990’s. The story centres around Mad Padraic, a member of the Irish National Liberation Army, whose cat, Wee Thomas, is “poorly” while he is away on a mission. When he returns home and discovers the death of his beloved feline, he goes on a violent rampage, seeking revenge on those responsible. As the body count rises, the line between comedy and horror becomes increasingly blurred in this absurd and bloody tale.

The director Nigel Ryan, a long-time member of Navan Theatre Group, brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this production. He directed the group's productions of The Beauty Queen of Leenane and The Last Apache Reunion in 2012 and 2013 respectively. He has also been involved with Dunshaughlin Players and, most recently, with Yellow River Drama Group in Wilkinstown where he directed Don’t Dress for DinnerI Do Not Like Thee Dr. Fell and The Beauty Queen of Leenane. Nigel most recently hit the stage of Solstice Arts Centre playing the role of Frank in the world premiere of God’s Hotel by esteemed Meath playwright Deirdre Kinahan.

This production features an all-star cast of Ian McColgan, Shane Fox, Keith Whelan, Padraig McLaughlin, Katy Leech, Ray O'Hare, Eoin Kenny, and Robert Lally.
