The Studio 2026 at Beaufort House with artist Penelope Lacey
Solstice Arts Centre, The Studio continues for the fourth year with Beaufort House, Navan.
Commissioning artist Penelope Lacey to engage weekly creative sessions at Beaufort House, the centre of the project is The Studio, a polytunnel space in their garden area where residents, families, staff, and artists gather. Through regular engagement, the artist establishes a consistent presence, enabling relationships to build gradually creating an environment where conversations emerge organically, and the creative engagements are key to this process.
Working with clay, plant materials, and repurposed objects, residents are invited to create personal and symbolic forms that reflect identity, memory, comfort, and care. Self-expression and communication through gesture, making, and shared attention, horticultural activities further support reflection, as planting and tending to growth introduces gentle parallels with cycles of life.
Five Gatherings with family and friends are woven into the project, where creative engagement becomes a meaningful and accessible pathway into conversations about care, choice, and end of life.
