Navan Silver Band & Murley Silver Band in Concert
Musical director Kevin Teers conducts Navan Silver Band alongside Murley Silver Band from County Tyrone in this joint concert from two of Ireland’s leading brass bands.
Navan Silver Band (est. 1941) is the oldest musical organisation in Navan. In 1948 the band made a memorable trip to Lourdes with the Meath Pilgrimage. Over the many years the band were National Champions on several occasions alongside quartet and solo victories. In 1988 the band led the St Patricks Day parade in Dallas Texas and gave recitals in their concert hall and in the TV famed South Fork. The band featured at several concerts in the NCH along with the National Concert and Symphony Orchestras with the late Victor Malrish as musical director. In the 70 and 80s the band played in Croke Park for Leinster and All Ireland semi-finals. In 1993 the band erected their band hall in Athlumney and totally renovated it in 2015. Today the band are very strong again under their musical director Kevin Teers boasting of runners up at the 2025 Nationals.
Established in 1924 in Fivemiletown, County Tyrone, and taking its name from the Murley Mountain area where most of the original members lived, Murley Silver Band has become one of Northern Ireland’s premier brass bands. A multiple North of Ireland Bands Association champion, the band has represented the region at the European Championships in Norway (2008), Belgium (2009), and France (2016). The band have enjoyed entertaining audiences with performances at concerts, contests, marching events, and various community and council engagements throughout the country. In its Centenary year, 2024, the band released a CD to mark 100 years of music-making and are launching a centenary book in September 2025. In June 2024 the band appointed Kevin Teers as Musical Director and are busy preparing for concerts and another year of competitions. The band rehearses at its hall at Edfield Way, Fivemiletown.
