Take Me to the River 2026

Take Me to the River is a collaborative, visual, and sensory response to the waterways and landscapes that shape our lives in County Meath. Inviting communities to explore their relationship with place, it acts as a catalyst for environmental awareness and meaningful public engagement through the arts. Bringing together multiple perspectives and creative disciplines, it explores the deep historical, cultural, ecological, and economic connections that bind us to our local environments. Dynamic partnerships and exchanges, combined with the power of artistic and cultural expression explore riverside habitats, landscapes, flora, and fauna, while supporting those taking positive, nature-based actions, advocating for the protection and restoration of our ecosystems and the strengthening of ecological resilience.

This site-specific programme of events for 2026 prompts reflection and learning through activities such as listening, drawing, foraging, and shared moments of river-life exploration. Encouraging us to slow down and observe, these experiences are enriched by conversations around sustainable cohabitation with nature and how communities and ecosystems can thrive together.

Bringing communities, families, organisations, cultural institutions, academics and enthusiasts together, testimonials from Take Me to the River events in 2024-25 include:

I found it both educational and uplifting. It was great to have such important river information along with actions that can be taken, all presented in such a beautiful, uplifting and engaging way.

It was wonderful to learn about the river, at the river. In a world where a lot of people feel overwhelmed and powerless with current environmental issues it was a fantastic way to get people engaged.

Combining artwork, creativity and biodiversity, we all really enjoyed the day, from the 3 year old to the 65 year old. Thank you.

A truly wonderful experience for our Down Syndrome members. The collaboration with your TMTTR programme and The School of Looking meant it was an exceptionally layered, educational, interesting and enjoyable experience for all.

This multidisciplinary approach to engaging and educating people is fantastic and was a brilliant experience.
