Tour with Mythical Ireland

Date: Sat 13 July
Time: 10am – 2pm + Gallery Tour
Locations: Fourknocks Passage Tomb and the Hill of Tara, Co. Meath

Inspired by the installation In Search of Hy-Brasil that provokes us all to reimagine the land we call home, travel back in time and learn from our ancestors, and their deep connection with the land, sea and sky, evident in these ancient remains.

Guided by Anthony Murphy from Mythical Ireland, we begin within the stone walls of Fourknocks, a Neolithic passage tomb built about 5000 years ago. Thought to be from the Irish Fuair Cnocs meaning Cold Hills, Fourknocks is decorated with possibly the earliest depiction of a human face found in prehistoric art in Ireland.

Driving west to the Hill of Tara, hear about the ancient monuments on this sacred land and their significance to our understanding of the history of the area and how the ancient High Kings came to power.

Following the tour, you are welcome back to Solstice to view the exhibition In Search of Hy-Brasil. Ireland’s representation at the national pavilion at Venice Architecture Biennale 2023, this ambitious installation derives from an intense engagement with the islands of Ireland. Please allow an additional hour if you wish to visit the gallery.

Transport is NOT provided to or from the sites / participants must make their own way by car. Some areas of this tour take place on rough ground and are not accessible for wheelchair users. Entering the Fourknocks tomb is optional, and involves enclosed spaces with limited daylight.
