Duration: 10am - 4pm
For: Adults/students

Investigating our connections to memory and place, examined by Willie Doherty in his exhibition 'Remnant' in the gallery, join photographer Brian Cregan to explore some of these these themes through digital photography.

This daylong event begins at Solstice with a tour of the exhibition Remnant followed by an interactive workshop with Brian where participants learn composition skills and how to make the most of their smartphones. Participants will also learn about the hidden features and settings on their camera app that will give them more creative control in terms of focus and exposure.

Moving down to the Ramparts on foot, use your phone to capture imagery along the river that inspires you, and evokes a connection to the landscape. Returning to Solstice for lunch, enjoy a theatre screening of Doherty’s multiple short films. The workshop will resume in the gallery, exploring the photographs taken outdoors, and learning how to manipulate them into forms of atmospheric expression.

This daylong workshop may not be suitable for those with mobility requirements. The structure of the day is subject to change.

The workshop is aimed at smartphone users but participants can use their DSLR or mirrorless cameras also. If so they should bring a laptop so they can edit and share their photographs.

Under 18s should be accompanied by an adult and use their smartphone or tablet under supervision.
